Five Master Edits
Shot One: Contrast
For this shot I wished to contrast and excess of wealth and money with scene showing destitution and a lack of material finance. I showcases this by showing a shower of high marked bills against the rattling of a few spare coins. The contrast between wealth and poverty is very apparent in this work.
Shot Two: Simultaneity
To portray to events happening at the same time I made the second shot a reaction to the first shot. This reaction symbolize continuity between shots and sets a timeline. By having similar atmospheres and lighting in both shots it also builds a sense of time.
Shot Three: Parallelism
In order to showcases Parallelism I shot an old paper novel as the subject of the first shot, and a new digital novel as the subject of the second. This clash of shots demonstrates the parallels of digesting literature and the similar nature of both the past and present.
Shot Four: Symbolism
In order to show symbolism I took the idea and image of recycling bin and clashed it against an overflowing trash can filled with recyclable items. By even fading the first shot out shot so that only the symbol of recycling is shown it allows the image to be felt at a deeper level and makes it apparent that recycling has failed in its efforts. This whole edit demonstrates that failure of good intentions and the laziness of humans.
Shot Five: Leitmotif
To showcase the importance of time in this piece I repeatedly cut back to a clock. The return to a clock is supposed to demonstrate the slow crawl of time, and the characters frustration with it. When audio is added to the piece it will further extend that feeling and add more existential dread, with the inclusion of ominous music over the shots of the clock.
